We engaged Nottingham Trent University (NTU) in the UK to compare the mucopolysaccharide structure of Phytodroitinâ„¢ with Chondroitin Sulphate of Bovine, Shark and Avian origins, together with a standard Chondroitin Sulphate (bovine trachea origin) obtained from Sigma Aldrich.

NTU used Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, sampling of the powders being performed using the attenuated total reflectance technique:
Results:
Phytodroitinâ„¢ proved to be almost identical in mucopolysaccharide structure to Chondroitin Sulphate of Shark origin, and particularly Chondroitin of Avian origin. Chondroitin Sulphate of Bovine origin showed a slightly different spectrum to the other sources but was consistent with the standard (no surprise, as it was also of bovine origin).
