Selenomethionine is an amino acid that contains selenium.

The primary use of L-Selenomethionine in food supplements is to provide a bioavailable form of selenium.

Who needs selenium supplements?
The adult human body contains up to 20 milligrams (mg) of selenium, with the minimum daily requirement for adults being at least 55 micrograms (mcg) per day.

As most selenium-rich foods include fish, nuts/seeds/grains/beans, milk, cheese and eggs, some individuals might struggle to gain their daily recommended allowance of selenium.

  • Vegans and Vegetarians.
  • Individuals with severely compromised gastrointestinal function.
  • Very elderly individuals.
  • People with poor heart function and degeneration of cartilage.
  • People with weakened immune systems and general fatigue.
